Solimar is a large expanse of beach and rock blankets the stretch of beach break to the Solimar Reef, allowing for lefts and rights. Sandwiched between Emma Wood State Beach Park and Faria Beach Park, Solimar is a southwest-facing beach along northern Ventura County’s open coast. The beach area looks out toward Anacapa Island, and the moderate ocean temperature at Solimar Beach makes the area a great place for surfing. There’s plenty of parking along Old Highway 1, which runs along the shoreline. Solimar Beach has several breaks, depending on swell conditions. The beach is well spread out, and there’s usually plenty of room to pick your spot.

Ventura, California. Close to Rincon, one of California's best point breaks, along with stellar surfing at Emma Wood and Solimar-just far enough from Los Angeles and close enough to Santa Barbara. It's a great place to meet on beautiful uncrowded beaches. There is a great local vibe in the water with everyone sharing the stoke. Ventura hosted the first prize-money surfing contest (in 1965), and it was here that three-time world champ Tom Curren and the "phun hog/tube junkies" Malloy brothers perfected their moves. Ventura's cool old downtown-wedged up against the foothills a few blocks from the Pacific-is packed with eateries, thrift shops, and bookstores.
